Music teaching in early childhood in rural areas

The rural district of Görlitz in the eastern Germany has been affected by demographic change. The shrinking population has also witnessed a reduction in the availability of basic music education, which disadvantages children in particular. This is an area in which the project partner wishes to provide support.
The ‘Music Heroes Project’ features a mobile music workshop that reaches 500 children every year and offers musical activities that promote their personal development. The mobile music workshop enables music teachers to cover large distances and respond to the respective local circumstances.
The teachers offer singing lessons with instruments in day care facilities and primary schools. The lessons and public performances promote the personal development of even the very youngest children. The participants acquire new skills through singing as part of a group and learn how to speak clearly and distinctly. The educational benefits are further enhanced through games involving instruments or physical activities. Joint choir concerts are held every year to boost the self-confidence of the participating children.
