Think Tanger – the cultural factor

By building on cultural engineering, this project is helping to improve urban development in the city of Tangier. It proposes setting up an urban laboratory in «Bir Chifa», the largest «informal» district in the city. In doing so, it will help 60 young people develop technical and creative skills through a variety of workshops on the subjects of video, radio, urban ecology and psycho-geography, with the aim of promoting a sense of belonging and citizen participation in the district. The project connects the city’s excluded districts with its centre by creating a platform: the cultural factory, which will advance and showcase the creative efforts of these young people.  It also harnesses the potential in scientific research on urban life, and channels this to highlight the important role culture plays as a social and economic driver.
