Tariqi: Qualifying Youth to Enter the Labour Market

Based on the results and lessons learnt from the one-year pilot project, the four-year project Tariqi: Qualifying Youth to Enter the Labour Market focuses on promoting vocational career paths among youth and adolescents and on strengthening the employability of youth.

To support adolescents in their educational choices, the project engages 128 adolescents and, by extension, 4’000 public school students in career orientation activities and conducts a wider public information campaign to promote vocational careers as attractive options.

Moreover, it enhances the employability of 124 youth through high-quality vocational training in sectors that are in demand and supports initiatives to connect the youth to income-generating activities (employment or self-employment).

To support private sector development in the south of Jordan, the partner prepares the launch of a micro-business development support centre in Ma’an that helps strengthen the role of the private sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, in the local economy.

Over the course of four years, at least 550 family members of the trained youth indirectly benefit through an increased household income. 250-400 siblings of the newly oriented adolescents gain secondary insights into available careers, which in turn contributes to better-informed educational and career choices on their side.

Through this project, the partner further strengthens its organisational capacity and potential to scale interventions that support youth in this marginalised area in the south of Jordan.
