Promoting literacy in a fun way

A small library is being established in a newly renovated historic building. The library will be open every day and can accommodate up to 50 children. The children can use the library facilities, take part in playful activities that promote literacy and learning, or be creative and learn how to draw, paint or do handicrafts. The project will be implemented in cooperation with eight schools from the surrounding area.
In addition, a playground made from environmentally friendly materials and recycled products will be created so the children can also be offered outdoor activities. Parents are able to take part in parenting and child support courses. Public reading and educational events will raise awareness among the local community.
To ensure that the project activities continue after the project has ended, the young partner organisation will receive support to develop management structures and enhance its fundraising skills.
The aim of the project is to improve the children’s literacy and learning skills and to provide support for parents on matters relating to education. This is already the second library which is being established in the Gaza Strip with the support of Drosos Foundation.
