Garbage is a source of income for residents of the El Khosos area of Cairo. Over four years, Drosos Foundation has collaborated with Future Lights for Development Organization, a local NGO, to improve the living conditions and financial independence of garbage collectors. The partner established two recycling incubators to train young people in upcycling and to support small business development. The partner will now develop the business model of the recycling incubators to become a self-sustained social enterprise managed by local communities. 1’500 young people will be given improved access to the labour market through financial and non-financial services and through enhancing professionally operated mobile collection-recycling points. The aim is to provide sustainability by enhancing community participation and accountability.
