Out to sea? The plastic garbage project 3.0

Every year over six million tonnes of plastic garbage finds its way into the world’s oceans. The consequences of this are devastating for species diversity and leads to socio-economic problems. The exhibition entitled ‘Out to Sea?’ provides facts about pollution caused by plastic garbage and raises public awareness about the need to be mindful of how we use and dispose of plastic.
Since the exhibition opened in Zurich in 2012 it has been on tour throughout Europe. The success of the exhibition project prompted Drosos Foundation to make an exception and get involved in countries outside its normal area of focus and to support a tour in various European countries. In 2014 and 2015 the exhibition was also shows in the MENA region.
The Foundation is facilitating the staging of the exhibition at a total of 33 locations. In addition, other museums are taking on the exhibition at their own costs. At each of these locations the exhibition is accompanied by an intensive educational and supporting programme: activists clean up beaches, schools pay visits to the exhibition and design objects using plastic garbage. During the exhibition, specialist scientific presentations and political debates are held at each location. The exhibition therefore becomes a platform for bringing together local groups and individuals who are committed to the issue of plastic garbage.
