Rooftop farming

Rooftop farming is a simple means of improving environmental, social and economic conditions in a major city. The project aims to set up 500 small rooftop farms in a neglected district on the outskirts of Cairo in order to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs. The project will provide training and technical support for families who are willing and able to farm on their roofs. In addition, a drying and packaging unit will be developed to enable the organic, high-quality garden fruit and herbs to be offered for sale in high-end markets. The project will be undertaken in collaboration with the social enterprise Schaduf, which brings with it experience and expertise in agriculture and rooftop farming.
