HIV prevention and healthcare services in prisons

This project gives prisoners in four detention centres access to healthcare services and treatment for preventing drug addiction and HIV. The partner organisation focuses on promoting best practices to reduce demand for drugs and harm caused by drugs in Tunisian prisons, while also supporting prisoner rehabilitation as well as social and economic reintegration after their release.
Furthermore, UNODC is establishing sustainable partnerships between Tunisian NGOs and the prison authorities in order to provide the necessary training inside the prisons, raise awareness of these issues among prison staff and to teach inmates methods of harm reduction. Outside the correctional facilities, the project focuses primarily on maintaining relationships with service providers in the community in order to ensure continuity of care and the reintegration of vulnerable inmates after their release.
