This project supports 200 male and female adolescents from the marginalized communities of Behbet and Baharwa villages in Al Ayat District in Giza to develop key life skills to enhance their future prospects for economic empowerment. The partner builds upon the skills programmme developed through the project Learning through the Community which focused on Creativity, Critical Thinking and Curiosity and has been praised by the final evaluation for having made a significant change in the skills of the participating children. Taking up the recommendations of the same evaluation, this project will adapt to the growing needs of adolescents starting secondary school by developing and delivering a skills programme geared towards enhancing their future economic prospects including Self-reliance, Learning how to learn, Leadership and Digital skills. Through graduation projects, the adolescents will put these skills into practice by applying problem-solving, designing products or solutions and demonstrating leadership in one of 3 tracks: Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), volunteerism or writers’ club. In parallel, 50 local youth (18+) are qualified to deliver educational and skills development programs for children and adolescents. The project invests in designing and testing model skills programmes that will continue to be delivered through the partner’s community schools well beyond the project’s lifetime and potentially replicated by other entities.
